Canada marks the upcoming centenary of the outbreak of World War One with a silver dollar coin showing a couple about to be parted by war.

The Proof Fine Silver Dollar, crafted in 99.99% fine silver, features an engraving of a soldier saying goodbye to his sweetheart at a train station. Canadian artist Bonnie Ross has depicted the touching scene, which represents the journey taken by soldiers travelling to the Valcartier camp at the start of the war. Nearby, other soldiers stand by, ready to board the train taking them to war.

The coin is available in five different finishes and is the 55th issue of Canada Mint's popular silver coin.

To purchase the coin, visit the Royal Canadian Mint website.
