The Harrogate Coin Fair recently took place at the Old Swan Hotel in the Yorkshire spa town, attracting collectors from across the region whilst also helping to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Yorkshire Numismatic Society (YNS).

The two-day fair was the first to be organised by John Philpotts, the Director of Silbury Coins, and along with the range of coin traders, visitors were treated to a programme of lectures from some of the country’s top experts on tokens, coins and banknotes.

Organiser and coin dealer John Philpotts said:

‘What a weekend it was, there were more tables than in previous years and together with the old names there were lots of new faces offering a wide variety of coins, tokens, banknotes, medallions and antiquities. The atmosphere was buzzing, exhibitors were friendly and willing to share their knowledge.

'Alongside the fair there was a lecture program organised by the YNS to celebrate their 110th year, this included famous speakers like Richard Abdy and Barry Cook, both department curators at the British Museum. There was even a new set of coin dies made for the weekend and visitors got to strike their own coin to remember the show by.’

Next year’s Harrogate fair will be held in April, with dates to be confirmed. Find out more at www.harrogatecoinfair.com
