New Zealand Mint marks the fiftieth anniversary of the longest running TV sci-fi series of all time with a special coin featuring the famous Tardis.

The Doctor Who series launched in 1963 and since then, has featured twelve different actors playing the lead role of the time-travelling doctor. The first show was broadcast on 26 November 1963 on BBC Television. The original run lasted for 26 seasons - from 1963 until 1989, and was revived in 2005.

The New Zealand Mint's special coin has a reverse which depicts an engraved relief of the Tardis used by the Doctor to travel through time and space. This is presented on a colour printed background representing time travel. The coins border features the finely engraved words 'Doctor Who 50th Anniversary 1963 – 2013'. The obverse of the coin carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

To purchase the coin, visit the New Zealand Mint website.
