Since 1977 the Star Wars films have captivated film-goers with the timeless opposition of good versus evil. Now, in time for Star Wars Day on ‘May the 4th’, the Royal Mint has launched its latest range of Star Wars coins.

Star Wars Collectable Coins Series 2

Following on from the success of its first Star Wars coin series, featuring popular Star Wars duos, the second Star Wars coin series is dedicated to the franchise’s iconic vehicles. The first of the new four-coin 50p series depicts the Millennium Falcon, one of the most recognised and celebrated vehicles in the Star Wars galaxy. The Millennium Falcon has played a huge role in some of the greatest victories of the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic. The other coins, also launching in 2024, will feature a TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Death Star II.

Combining traditional minting techniques with modern technology, The Royal Mint’s craftspeople have reproduced the Star Wars vehicles for the first time on official UK coins. Designed by Ffion Gwillim, both coin collectors and Star Wars fans will enjoy the coin’s unique lenticular feature, depicting the silhouette of the Millennium Falcon and the Rebel Alliance ‘Starbird’ symbol. The lenticular feature, which tilts in the light to reveal additional symbols, demonstrates The Royal Mint’s specialised techniques and an advanced picosecond laser was used to imprint the designs onto coin making tools to ensure accuracy. The Millennium Falcon 50p comes in a variety of finishes, including gold proof, silver proof, brilliant uncirculated and in colour and can be purchased from The Royal Mint with prices starting at just £12, making them an ideal addition to your coin collection, will you be getting your hands on one?
