Two new silver coins from Israel Coins & Medals Corp feature the Sunbird and Barn Owl, as part of the Birds of Israel coin series.

The coins form the seventh and eight instalment in the series respectively. The Sunbird coin, designed by Igal Gabay features a brightly-coloured male Sunbird (Nectarinia osea) taking nectar from a flower with its long tongue. This bird is the smallest in Israel, at just 10cm long and 8g in weight.

The reverse of the coin, which is common to the series, features a satellite image showing Israel as the centre of the world, with an 'inner compass' of birds.

The second coin features a Barn Owl (Tyto alba), again designed by Igal Gabay, this time using a colour pallette of brown, cream and black. This bird of prey measures about 35cm in length, weighs up to 320 grams, has a wingspan of 90cm and feeds on rodents.
