The unique coin celebrates the centenary of the discovery of the Egyptian Pharoah's tomb
Issued by Pobjoy Mint on behalf of Sierra Leone, the stunning new coin features Tutankhamum's Death Mask, with hieroglyphics in the background. The coin, available as a $1 Bronze issue, has been Goldclad and coloured.
Tutankhamum was a young ruler who died at the age of 19 in 1324 BC. His fame exploded more than 3,000 years after his death with the excavation of his tomb in 1922 by English Egyptologist and archaeologist Howard Carter. The four chambers of his tomb, discovered almost completely intact in the Valley of Kings, were filled with more than 5,000 items, many of solid gold, including the Death Mask featured to such striking effect on the new Pobjoy Mint coin.
The commemorative coin was issued on 29 September 2022.
