Japan Mint have struck a special medal to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Japan Mint, which was founded at an inauguration ceremony on 4 April 1871.
Issued for overseas markets only, the coin features a dragon design from the 20 yen gold coin issued in the early Meiji period with the inscription “150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JAPAN MINT 1871 – 2021.”
The reverse of the coin shows the main entrance to the Japan Mint, along by the Old Yodo River, at the time of establishment with the inscription “150th anniversary of the Japan Mint” in Japanese.
