Since 1998, the Japan Mint has invited submissions of coin designs from all over the world to encourage creativity and enhance the artistry of coin design. The design of this year’s medal was awarded the prize for Most Excellent Work in the ICDC 2021.
The designer, Ms. FrisoneMaria Anna, selected “Humanity in Nature” as the theme and created the design.
The medal is available in gold and silver versions.
About the winning artist
Ms. Frisone Maria Anna was born in Italy in 1976, and studied at the Scuola dell'Arte della Medaglia at the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome, from 2014 to 2017.
She won a scholarship from the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (2017-2018) and was awarded the Fine Work of ICDC (2017). She has collaborated with the Central Bank of Malta as a designer and engraver and is responsible for the design and engraving of the €2 commemorative coin "Heroes of the Pandemic" (2021)
