Pobjoy Mint has issued a limited edition coin on behalf of the Isle of Man government which celebrates the 200th anniversary of the rediscovery of the city of Petra. The sixth-century BC city, in Jordan, was rediscovered in 1812 by Swiss explorer Johan Burckhardt, who was taken to the site by a local guide.

The coin features the facade of the well-known 'Treasury' building, a striking, forty-metre-tall structure which has appeared in films including Sinbad and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Sand from the city of Petra has also been incorporated into each of the 1oz fine silver high relief coins, with the coin obverse featuring an Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
