A new British Virgin Islands $10 coin, with a special 'dished' design, has been issued by Pobjoy Mint to mark the 250th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the USA.

The new coin recreates the bronze statue of Jefferson found in the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC, with the 'dished' design being used to 'give the impression of this amazing sculpture inside a dome'.

The coin's design also shows the panels of the walls of the building which feature extracts from the Declaration of Independence.

The Proof Fine Silver $10 coin has a limited mintage of just 650, and has a retail price of £165. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II produced exclusively for Pobjoy Mint.
