'The Last Post' and 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' coins mark WWI centenary

The new coin for Ascension Island, with a value of 1 crown, is available in uncirculated cupro-nickel and proof sterling silver, whilst a special version showing the poppies in colour is also available.

The coin shows a bugler sounding the Last Post in front of a group of soldiers. Their camp can be seen in the background with the flag at half-mast and Poppies are shown in the foreground in remembrance of those who lost their lives.

A statement from Pobjoy Mint said:

'The coin is entitled The Last Post which is a bugle or trumpet call used at Commonwealth military funerals and ceremonies commemorating those who have been killed in war… this stunning coin is also available with the poppies beautifully coloured as a reminder of the number of people who did not return from this war.'

The coin for the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) depicts a solider standing in front of a cross with his head bowed. Soldiers can be seen climbing over the trenches in the background. Poppies feature in the foreground of the coin in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives.

Similarly a colour version of the coin is also available with the poppies coloured.
