The Royal Mint has today (5 November) released details of a new silver proof 50p coin based on Raymond Brigg's well-loved character The Snowman.
Watching The Snowman™ as a child inspired Robin Shaw to become an animator, determined that one day he would work with his hero Raymond Briggs, who created the character. He achieved his ambition when he became Assistant Director on The Snowman and The Snowdog, the sequel to the original animated short.
Robin collaborated with The Royal Mint on its first coin for The Snowman™, producing original sketches for the packaging, and now is working with him once again.
Coin details
Priced at £10, this Brilliant Uncirculated coin will not enter general circulation. It comes in fold-out packaging featuring illustrations by Robin Shaw, showing The Snowman™ and the boy lucky enough to meet him one winter's night.
Silver Proof and Gold Proof versions are also available.
