The well-loved song Twelve Days of Christmas has inspired the design of the Royal Australian Mint's first ever Christmas coin.

The 50C coin, which has an Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse features a reverse striking design featuring the characters of Twelve Days of Christmas - from a partridge in a pear tree to twelve drummers drumming.

The design has a kaleidoscope feel, with the characters forming a pattern outwards from the centre, and the number '50' on the bottom right.
