Raymond Brigg's loveable character Father Christmas has been chosen as Gibraltar's Christmas 2019 coin.
The 50p, issued today (28 October) features an illustration from Raymond Brigg’s book, depicting Father Christmas, and the obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The egal Tender Christmas 50p coin is an official issue by the Government of Gibraltar and has been minted by Pobjoy Mint.
A Christmas Coin Card has also been issued featuring a coloured 50p coin produced in a Cupro-Nickel Diamond finish with an edition limit of 8,500.
The work of Raymond Briggs
The book Father Christmas was first published in 1973 and was written and illustrated by Raymond Briggs. It was adapted for 1991 in the short film Father Christmas that also incorporated the author's 1975 book Father Christmas Goes on Holiday.
