Australia's fifth time hosting the Commonwealth Games is being marked with the release of two coin issues from Royal Australian Mint for the XXI Commonwealth Games.

Australia's fifth time hosting the Commonwealth Games is being marked with the release of two coin issues from Royal Australian Mint for the XXI Commonwealth Games.

The first release is a 50 cent gold plated uncirculated coin which has been designed to represent the 'golden sun and beaches' of Australia's Gold Coast, which is the host city of the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The central portion of the reverse of the coin features a Gold Coast beach, whilst a border has images of athletes performing in different sports. The obverse has an image of Queen Elizabeth II.

Three-coin set

Also available is a three-coin Commonwealth Games set, designed by Quandamooka Country artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins with images which represent the moving tidelines of the coast, symbolic of the achievements of the athletes who will come to compete in the Games.
