A new $1 coin has been produced by Pobjoy Mint to mark the centenary of the birth of former US president John F Kennedy, on 29 May 1917.

The Reverse Proof coin, which is issued in 1oz Bullion Fine Silver on behalf of the British Virgin Islands, features a new exclusive effigy design of Queen Elizabeth II, and a portrait of President Kennedy. The Kennedy portrait is based on a medal crafted by acclaimed medallist Paul Vincze, a Hungarian artist who specialises in portraiture.

President Kennedy was the 35th President of the USA and served from January 1961 until his assassination on 22 November, 1963. His presidency spanned many important issues and events, including the emergence of the Civil Rights movement, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Bay of Pigs invasion, the nuclear test ban treaty, the establishment of the Peace Corps, and developments in the Space Race.
