To mark the coronation of HM King Charles III on 6 May, the first coronation of a new Sovereign of Canada in seven decades, a $5 silver coin featuring His Majesty’s new royal cypher has been issued by the Royal Canadian Mint.

This new coin is part of a collection of Canadian collector coins specially issued to commemorate the momentous occasion.

Crafted in ¼oz of 99.99% pure silver, this coin features a unique matte proof finish, with the background having a satin sheen that contrasts with the high-shine relief.

The reverse signals the start of a new era in Canadian numismatics because it is the first to feature His Majesty’s Royal Cypher.

The four gemstone shapes and the engraved pearls that run around the edge of the reverse side of the coin were inspired by the stylised representation of the Tudor Crown in HM Majesty’s cypher.

The obverse features Susanna Blunt’s effigy of the Queen Elizabeth II.
