The latest coin in the Isle of Man’s Christmas Angels series has been issued by Pobjoy Mint.

The 1/20 oz 999.9 Gold coin has a Christmas themed privy mark which is exclusive to this particular coin. Isle of Man has issued limited edition Gold Angel coins since 1984 and the design on this coin is only the third Angel design in the coin’s history.

The latest Gold Angel carries a design on its reverse featuring the Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. The limited edition coin bears a privy mark representing gold, frankincense and myrrh, to symbolise the gifts the Magi brought to Jesus following his birth. The obverse has an Iain Rank-Broadley FRBS portrait of the Queen, who is known as Lord of Mann within Isle of Man.

Just 1,000 of the Gold Angel coins have been minted for Christmas 2016 and each one has been struck four times to display finely sculpted frosted detail, in contrast to the mirror finish background.
