New Zealand Mint has issued details of the first in its new Legendary Tales coin series - a 1oz pure silver coin featuring the moment when Ali Baba overhears the forty thieves visiting the treasure cave.

Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves is considered one of the world's great folk tales, having been reenacted on stage and screen many times. The origins of the tale have been lost in time but it came to the public's attention when it was included in the story collection One Thousand and One Nights translated by Antoine Galland in the 1700s.

The obverse of the coin features the effigy of the Niue Coat of Arms and is legal tender in Niue. It is limited to only 3,000 coins worldwide.
