The first silver bullion coin on behalf of Sierra Leone features the King of the African Savannah
The brand new frosted silver reverse coin has been produced by Pobjoy Mint on behalf of Sierra Leone.
The design features the head of a lion styled as if it was an African mask, and the rim features an African pattern. The lion motif is particularly apt as 'Sierra Leone' means "Mountains of Lions'. the name was originally bestowed by Portuguese explorer Pedro de Sinta, one of the first European explorers of the area, after he heard lions roaring in the mountains.
A limited edition of 5,000 1oz Silver Reverse Frosted Bullion coins will be produced.
